CHAPTER U WEEKLY UPDATE Region H, Texas District Volume 6, Number 3a 7 March, 2010
Hi Everyone, The Friday night ride/dinner was at Shak Attack in Bracken. We had 12 people attend for great food and fUn. The Saturday, March 6th ride was attended by 5 bikes and 8 people. One couple barely started the trip and experienced a flat tire. Since they were close to someone they knew, we made sure they were okay and they told us to go on without them. We had a windy and cool ride, some interesting roads, and saw more kinds of animals than usual. We lunched at Coopers in Llano. The place was crowded but we enjoyed a great meal and had tons of fUn. We are having a staff meeting this Tuedsay, March 9th at Dragon Lake in Universal City to discuss the couple basket for the District Rally in May. Meet at 6:30 to eat and we will start the meeting once everyone is done eating. Our quarterly trash pick up is scheduled for this Saturday, March 13, 2010. We will meet at 7:00 AM at Pickerell Park at the Pavilion. We will ride to eat breakfast/brunch when we are done. We will have doughnuts before the pickup. The more volunteers we have the sooner we will get done! This is a fun thing to do and the community really appreciates our efforts. On Sunday, March 14th there will be a road captain course at Court Van Sickle’s home beginning at 12:30 PM. If you plan to attend please notify Court or us so he will know how many to expect. There will be a ride coordination meeting also. Please contact Court at tx.chptu.ed@gmail.com by March 11, 2010. Be advised that our Host Hotel for the District Rally, the Shilo Inn is FULL ! If you don't have a preference as to where you would like to stay, the Shilo will direct you to their overflow hotels. This is the best way for you to get good rates. Example: they have the Comfort Suites as one of their overflow facilities at the same rate - $85.00. Now then, if you happen to get a hold of a counter clerk that doesn't know about overflow directions, ask for the Sales Dept, Donna Fishback and she will handle it for you. Google Killeen Hotels to obtain all hotel listings in the area. Just about any hotel chain is available and all are in close proximity (within a couple of miles at most) of the Civic Center. Words of Wisdom: I was waiting for the ride to start this Saturday and I began to think how long it had been since I had performed the last t-clocs on my bike. I mean the last time I performed a by the numbers inspection. So I put my bike on the center stand and checked the Tire pressures, inspected my tires and wheels, then I checked the Controls. I checked my Lights and my Oil and fluid levels. Then I looked over my bikes Chassis, shocks and finally the Side-stand. It really doesn’t take that long to do and you are a safer rider when you inspect your motorcycle prior to a ride. By: Skip Surre Road Captain Course and Co-Rider Seminar! When: Saturday, March 14th, starting at 12:30 p.m.
Where: The Van
Sickler's And we'll conduct a ride coordination meeting too... The Road Captain Course is required to lead, or drag a ride; and the Co-Rider Seminar can be used for information and/or as a training segment for advancing through the Levels Programs. A Road Captain is one forever; while the Co-rider seminar is good for three years. Following the class sessions we will ride on HWY 46 to provide the Road Captain candidates an opportunity to lead, and drag in order to become certified Road Captains. As always we'll end our successful training and ride with a DQ stop in New Braunfels. Anyone that is already a road captain or has attended a co-rider seminar in the last three years is welcome to attend; most likely because you want to ride, and make the DQ stop. Please contact Court, either by phone or email, if you plan on attending the training, or if you just want to ride. ALSO, be watching the website and updates for information about the PLP schedule! Safe riding and have fUn! Court and Diane Chapter U Educators Ride Safe & Have Fun! Steve & Susan Ochs, TX-U CDs
