CHAPTER U WEEKLY UPDATE

Region H, Texas District

Volume 5, Number 1e

Jan 31, 2010

Hi Everyone,

The Friday night was attended by 7 people at Coopers Barbecue in New Braunfels.  The Saturday ride to Canyon Lake was attended by 5 bikes and 6 people.  The weather was cool but the sunshine was a nice change of pace.

This Friday night ride will be at the Lion & Rose at the Forum.  We will meet at 6:30 PM at the restaurant.  Hope to see you there!

We are currently looking for a newsletter editor and an Assistant Chapter Director.  Duke is filling in for a Methodist preacher that was hurt on January 20th in a motorcycle accident and will not have the time to devote to the newsletter.  Our prayers go out to this fellow motorcyclist and we hope for a speedy recovery.  If you are interested in either of these positions, we would love to hear from you.

Mike Mills is working on getting rides on the calendar.  If you have any ideas, please contact us or Mike Mills.

Chapter V-2 has extended this invitation for anyone interested in participating.

Leave on April 21 to head to Big Bend and staying at the Best Western Alpine.  The phone number there is 432-837-1530.  April 22 and 23 staying at the Long Horn Ranch Motel in Terlingua, the phone number there is 432-371-2541, some times they are hard to reach but keep trying.  We are staying in Terlingua 2 nights because we want to ride Big Bend longer. Chapter X is heading back on the 23 for home but we are staying.

Words of Wisdom:

Heard a story today about a car salesman who was discussing his most interesting test drives while out with potential new car buyers.  Some of the things he mentioned went as follows: he had one guy who thought he was a race car driver and was weaving in-n-outta traffic (luckily they didn't hit anyone); and he told of another driver - a young man who was apparently showing off for his girlfriend - who decided to pass vehicles on the Interstate using the LEFT SHOULDER as his driving lane!  Then there was the one that truly got his attention -- when leaving a parking area the driver didn't take an extra second to look back to their right to verify that it was safe to pull across traffic; and, as they pulled out they heard the screech of tires and the lady sitting in the front passenger seat screaming at the top of her lungs as she stared at the grill of a pick-up truck heading straight at them (her). Luckily nothing happened this time (don't know if the sale was completed) but that must have put a strain on the couple's relationship.

Point is - we all have to take that extra few seconds to look back and forth, even a couple of times, before pulling out from a driveway or parking area; or when making a left turn at an intersection; or before you proceed into or through an intersection.  The reason is you never know if another driver is not paying attention to what they're supposed to be doing and then the unexpected happens.  Put the head on a swivel, and keep your eyes moving all the time.

Happy riding!  And have fUn.
