Wimberly Ride 12 Jan 08
write-ups by Jill Severe & Charlie Brown
The Chapter U annual ride to Wimberly benefited from a nice
south central Texas winter day and 22 folks showed up with 13 bikes and
trikes for a leisurely ride route that included Purgatory Road! We were
especially glad to see some members we hadn't seen for quite a while (Kenny
and Connie Jordan) and some visitors to Chapter U for the first time, Archie
Haley, and Gerard and Erin Lobosco. There were lots of leather jackets,
chaps, and lots of layers of clothing present as the temperature was below 50
degrees when we took off and didn't get much higher by the time we arrived at
Wimberly. Our timing was perfect though as the Cypress Creek Cafe could deal
with 22 of us at one time...right between breakfast and lunch just as we had
planned it. Coffee and breakfast soon followed with some of us taking
advantage of the $2.99 breakfast special with $1.10 coffee! By the time we
left the cafe, the temperature had risen and the sunshine made it a beautiful
day! Some of the bikes took off on a ride, and some of the co-riders took off
shopping while their riders "kicked the tires and told lies" (using Charlie
Brown's words) in the parking lot! The co-rider didn't take too long...the
one thing about Wimberly is it is fun to window shop which helps when you are
riding a motorcycle AND helps keep the charges low on credit cards! Tony, and
Cheryl Stokely and John and Judy Curtis decided to look for a road that they
hadn't been on for 19 years and last time they tried it was flooded. Mike and
Eiko Mills and Jack Dowda took off for the River Road and home, Girard and
Ehren left for home. The rest of us took off for Fisher Store Road and the
Dairy Queen in Blanco, mandatory Dairy
Queen Stop accomplished we headed back down 281 toward San Antonio, with
riders peeling off as the trek home continued. Another Great Ride with Great
People as always We really enjoyed the ride and camaraderie
Thanks to Brad and Jill Severe and Candy and Charlie Brown for serving as Leads on today's ride, and to Mike and Ako Mills, and Tony Stokeley for serving as Drags. Olin and Martha Gover served as Super Drag so we knew our back side was well protected! Also thanks to Charlie Brown for the safety briefing before we took off. Last but not least, thanks to everyone who showed up with a full gas tank, a willingness to ride safe and be friendly, and to make each time we're together as Chapter U a FUN time!

Bikes in front of the Cyprus Creek Cafe!

Too many of us to sit in one group!
