14 Nov 08 Friday Ride
Great group showed up for the Friday night ride! We had 5 bikes and an trike plus several cars with 16 people. The Stokley's and Curtis' were headed to Castroville and the rest of the group was more interested in staying locally. Court & Diane VanSickler had to head back home. The remaining 10 of us headed out into the darkness and traffic toward the China Sea buffet. Tom & Nancy had a very close encounter with one of the local deer be were able to stop in time. I am sure he was glad to be in his truck and not the trike! The rest of the ride was smooth. The bikes went first and by the time the 4-wheelers got there, they had already got a group of tables for us setup. The buffet had something for everyone. As a special treat, it was Lydia Harris' birthday!! After lots of food and chatter, we all headed our own ways back home.

John Curtis' new trike! Nice to see Beth & Skip Surre!

Cheryl Stokley & John Curtis. Judy Curtis and Jill Severe.

Lots of socializing going on as well as trying to figure out where to eat!

8 Nov 08 Texas Honor Ride
Write-up and photos by Tom & Nancy Byrd
On Nov 8, several hundred motorcycles and trikes of all brands and colors settled in at the roadside park at mile marker 619, west bound, for the Texas Honor Ride. Law enforcement personnel were there for escort purpose to the Salado Park area on Fort Sam Houston. These officers were from various cities, counties, and Dept of the Army Police which led the first group of riders from the area. After arriving and visiting with some of the riders, we met up with Sal & Phylis Pesta and John & Lydia Harris. Tony & Cheryl Stokley, former Chapter U CD's, were there on their Harley! Everyone moved up to the registration area where we got our armbands to identify us as authorized to enter Fort Sam Houston. Later in the morning, there was a safety briefing and prayer for riders and soldiers. The first group of about 100 bikes departed the rest area escorted by the Fort Sam Houston DA Police and one Military Policeman. The remaining groups were scheduled to depart about every 15 minutes. SAPD blocked some intersections as we neared Fort Sam Houston. We entered post via the Holbrook gate and proceeded to Salado Park. First thing there was food provided by Rudy˘s BBQ with Bluebell ice cream sandwiches for desert. Shirts, pins, patches and coins were being sold on side in support of the event. Looking around, we found the Stokleys doing what they do best, eating. Entertainment was by a mariachi band and dancers. For about 1 and a half hours after we arrived, bikes continued to enter the area and riders devour the BBQ.

Sal & Phylis with a Gold Wing Triker. Large group of bikes in the staging area.

Great setup for the bar-b-que! And a great sunny day as well!

Lots of bikes! An even an unusual trike!

7 Nov 08 Friday Ride
This Friday was a bit different. For the fist time in a while we didn't go top Bellacino's! We decided to try a Thai restaurant in the same center. Several of the group had never had Thai and I think they were pleasantly surprised! Service was a bit questionable especially when they told us the appetizers we had been waiting a half hour for would come after the meal! We cancelled those and stuck with the main course. All eventually went well as the food slowly made it's way from the kitchen over the next 15 minutes or so.
We did have a great surprise. Olin came out for a Friday ride for the first time since his operation about 2 months ago! We were all pleased to see he and Martha and I hope we didn't overwhelm him!

Great to see Olin again! Yep Olin & Martha were sitting together!

Regulars, Jack & Linda. Brad & Jill

...and Nancy; Tom is taking the pics! Great looking Thai noodles!
3 Nov 08 "Hooky" Ride
Seven bikes and 8 folks showed for the Monday "Hooky" (or is that "Hookie"?) Foks came from all over literally! Duke Joined us from Bandera, Juan Busanet from Alamo Heights, Brad from San Antonio, Bob Fairey from Seguin and Mike, Court and Ron & Maria from New Braunfels! The ride Had a destination of the Cotton Gin in Fredricksburg for lunch. Great route up except the GPS and Mike's map had the restaurant on the wrong side of town! There were roads on the GPS that were not even actually there! Fun route anyway! So after taking a scenic route back toward Fredricksburg, Ron & Maria took the lead and we headed down toward the restaurant.

Pickup point, Exxon at 281 & 46
Food was great with a salad bar and small buffet lunch. Service was great and was the company and conversation! If you have not been to the Cotton Gin, I (and all the rest on the ride!) would highly recommend it!

Last stop, 3351 and 46
The route back was almost all side roads including Crabapple and Edge Falls Roads. I forgot my camera in the bike for lunch so we just got shots when we started the ride and when we ended! The Hooky rides remain very popular and we hope to schedule more!

Charlie Brown & Candy went all the way for the group!

Best shots are when everyone is close in the neighborhood!

Now we are moving! Stopped to get on to 281.

Long way down the road! 2 groups look pretty good!

Up hill! Accident on the right!

Pulling into our... ...required DQ stop!

Nice break and get a chance to talk about how the way up went!

Jill started the lead on the way back. Bit different behind a trike!

Ride back was easier for some reason!

Also getting late! Finally back.
