October 07 Meeting

WOW, what a great turnout! 40 people including 8 guests made it to the October chapter meeting. And that is not counting Dave Weaver’s friend Lana and Brent Lyon dropped by as the meeting was closing! Guess that would make it 42! Our guests included 2 couples from Chapter K in Louisiana, Gary & Amy Waguespack, Brian & Rosemary Wise, Bill & Jennifer Rotureau, Gary Ellis and John Simonick!   Most folks ever for a Chapter U function!!  It was packed, every seat taken, and getting a bit warm with the door closed. A few people even gave up their seats to let latecomers have a seat to eat!

Everyone put up with the close quarters and had a great time. Brad Severe recapped a few of the recent rides including the fact that Chapter U members won the grand prize at the last two rallies!  Brad also talked about the upcoming ride coordination meeting, and introduced Mike Mills as the incoming Ride Coordinator!  Welcome aboard Mike and thanks for volunteering!  Also welcome to Tom and Nancy Byrd who volunteered to be the Chapter photographers.  Tom was busy the whole evening snapping pictures of the night’s activities!

Charlie Brown, Senior Chapter Educator, talked about braking (practice first without your co-rider!), and then encouraged members to enroll in Level I Rider Education which is basically a commitment to safe riding.  Charlie also talked about the upcoming training available at the District Training Day in Lufkin, Texas, and Dave Weaver, Membership Enhancement Coordinator, talked about his great experience attending the District Mid-Winter Round-Up last January in Kerrville! John Simonick, who recently stepped down as Texas District Director, encouraged folks to come to the free training offered by GWRRA and talked about the Horizons program which introduces chapter staff functions and GWRRA organization to anyone interested in finding out more or getting more involved!

Charlie Brown sold lots of tickets for door prizes and Olin Gover handled the drawing for the prizes.  We had lots of great give-aways.  Thanks Duke & Chela, Ron & Maria, John Simonick and John & Judy Curtis for bringing door prizes. Also to our corporate sponsors, Joe Harrison Motor Sports and CycleRider.  Be sure to tell them you are a Chapter U member when you frequent their place of business so they feel they are getting a return on their donation!  The Chapter U “store” also opened for the first time and had a new supply of Goldwing-related pins for sale which kep Martha Gover our treasurer busy counting money and making change.  The meeting adjourned about 7:50.  Hope you can make the next Chapter meeting…it is sure to always be a fun time!
