20 Sep 08 Ride to Choke Canyon Picture & Write-up by Susan & Steve Ochs The morning started out a cool 58 degrees. Nice weather for a ride with not a cloud in the blue sky. There were 5 bikes and two trikes that YOSA at 8 am. The chapter members that were included in the YOSA starting point were Dale & Diane Goree, Mike & Ako Mills, Brad & Jill Severe, Mike & Cindy Edmonds, Olin & Martha Gover, Jack Dowda and Steve & Susan Ochs. After discussing the ride planned everyone was on the bikes and ready to greet the day.
Jill at YOSA Ride & safety briefing The ride consisted of taking many back roads to the restaurant in Three Rivers. We started by taking 1604 to 1303, then to Loop 181 in Floresville to pick up Bill Johnson, then to 97, where the trikes in our group almost got trampled by a pack of wild hogs (the real kind). Bill Johnson had just warned us that this stretch of road was known for the wild hogs. From 97 we headed down 1344 to Dewees where we picked up J D & Millie Kvapil. We stayed on 1344 to 791 and then 2942 to Fashing. On FM 99 we stopped in Peggy for a little rest stop. The restrooms were a little ancient but served the purpose. We continued riding down 99 until we reached 72, where you could see the Choke Canyon Reservoir. We soon made it to the restaurant and they were very accommodating to seat 18 people because while we were waiting for them to get our table ready, Charlie & Candy Brown drove up. Everyone tried a variety of food but from what I could hear no one went away hungry. The most raves we heard about were the onion rings that were hand battered and they were very tasty. Everyone either had chicken fried steak, steak or hamburgers in a variety of ways.
Yes! There is a Peggy, Texas There is one other building across the street

Nice room full of memorabilia just for us! When we were all done, everyone sat out on the front porch lined with rocking chairs and looked over at the reservoir. After much discussion about what route to take back to San Antonio, we decided to head into Three Rivers where everyone could fuel up and then head back toward Kenedy and then to Floresville. We lost JD & Millie to shop in Three Rivers and Dale & Diane headed back to go take a closer look at the reservoir. The rest of us headed to Floresville for a DQ break. Bill Johnson rode ahead to pick up Jane and meet us there. We all had some treats and cool drinks before heading back to San Antonio. The day was becoming warmer and it was rather windy heading back.
Newly weds Cindy & Mike Edmonds DQ stop in Floresville on the return. The day was wonderful as always, when spending time with U friends! Susan Ochs
