1 January 2008 Blessing of the Bikes New Year's Day 2008 dawned sunny, windy and COLD...Brrrr! Usually we don't like to ride in temperatures below 50 degrees but New Year's Day is special and we were able to attend our first Christian Motorcyclist Association-sponsored "Blessing of the Bikes" at the Wal-Mart at 281 and 1604! Dressing is easy...you just keeping layering everything you have until it is hard to get on the bike...well perhaps I could have used one less layer on my legs because my boot kept getting hung up on the rider's seat while trying to climb onto the back of Brad's bike! We finally got settled and took off for the less than 10 minute ride to the Wal-Mart and were delighted to get in line to register and start meeting and greeting new and old friends!
Sign-in area with a cool looking Ural(?)! The annual "Blessing of the Bikes" appears to be getting larger every year. After registering and receiving our free pin, we helped ourselves to free coffee, hot chocolate and food (I just stayed with the fudge!), and we caught up with fellow Goldwingers such as Juan Busanet and Mike Edmonds and his fiancée Cindy. Lots of introductions were made, information passed out on the Chapter with an invite to come check us out, and admiration of the different Goldwings present for the blessing! After the actual blessing of each bike, some of our Chapter headed home (Kenny Jordan, Bill Johnson, Harrel Scott and Court Van Stickler) and some of us headed to Chuy's restaurant for lunch. Lucky us, we beat the lunch crowd, sat at a nice round table (favorite table formation for Chapter U), and enjoyed a great New Year's Day lunch of Mexican food. Tom and Nancy Byrd and Dave Weaver joined Brad and I for lunch and we were fortunate Steve and Susan Ochs were up from Chapter V2 in Victoria for New Year's Day! After lots of tortilla chips and salsa, lots of tortillas and enchiladas and ice tea, we parted in good spirits with lots of hugs and "Happy New Year" wishes! This "Blessing of the Bikes" is sure going to be an annual chapter ride from this point on and we hope to see more Goldwings in the Wal-Mart parking lot next year!
Part of Chapter U Coffee and snacks really helped!!
Bill Johnson getting his bike blessed. Lots of talking!
Yep, it was cold! Just ask Susan Ochs and Nancy Byrd!
Great large crowd and lots of bikes!
Few of us went to lunch at Chuy's afterward!
