9 Aug 08 Breakfast Ride
What a glorious morning it was today. Not a cloud in the sky and a comfortable seventy-five degrees. As I made my way down 46, I wondered how many would venture out, since the temperatures would be climbing rapidly after about 10:00 A.M. Not more than a mile from our rendezvous point at 281, I caught up to Ken and Connie Jordan. As we pulled into the Exxon, four other bikes were already there; Charlie Brown, Bert Watts, Court Van Sickler, and Steve and Susan Ochs. While we were saying our howdies and catching up, Wes and Nancy Lewis; Gary Lewis and his daughter Kylie; and Archie Haley arrived. Some folks we hadn’t seen in awhile, so we continued to chat for awhile before heading out.

Socializing at the pickup point!

Archie, Wes & ken in front. On the road pic! Beautiful day!
Since this was an unscheduled event (no previous planning), the choice was to make a beeline for the Sunset Restaurant in Blanco before it filled up. Our timing was perfect. As we were being seated, the restaurant was filling up fast. We enjoyed a wonderful filling breakfast (if you have eaten here you will know why), caught up on current events and not so current events, and stood still long enough for a few photos.

Bikes lined up outside the Sunset.

Let's see, pancakes or pancakes! Chowing down!

Sure was a hungry lookin' group! Sunset porch shot!
On our return trip, five bikes took a more scenic route, while the others headed for their homesteads. Temperatures weren’t bad yet, but they were beginning to climb. We went down to 32 for a nice ride across Devil’s Backbone (nice sweepers), cruised down Purgatory Road to 306, headed back up to Sattler and made a leisurely ride down River Road before stopping at the Shell Station at the 337 Loop junction. We stretched our legs for a few minutes, said our goodbyes, and departed for a cooler environment, our casas.
All in all, it was a short riding day, but a good one for Chapter U. It was great to see friends whom we hadn’t seen for a while and get some riding in, if only a little.
