7 March Ride to the Bluebonnet Café and CAF in Burnet

(well that was the plan anyway)

The plan was to ride to the Bluebonnet Café in Marble Falls eat some breakfast or lunch. Then ride up to the municipal airport in Burnet and tour the CAF museum. The sky was overcast and the wind was blowing as 7 bikes with 10 riders gathered at the Exxon at 281 & 46. After taking a group consensus it was decided that we should consider an alternate plan.

This decision being made Skip Surre, Jack Dowda, Steve and Susan Ochs, Gary Skorman, Gary Lewis, Kenny and Connie Jordan, Court and Diane Van Sickler headed west on 46.

I was road captain and Court was working the as drag. We turned right on 3351 at Bergheim. Things were going well then I missed my turn onto Edge Falls Rd. and I led the group though a u-turn in a beautiful entrance to a subdivision (somehow I knew that this wasn’t what Charlie meant by parking lot practice).  Now heading south on 3351 we made our left onto Near Falls Rd. and rolled through some South Texas ranch land. The speed limit was 30 mph so we got to see wildlife, goats, and cattle along the way. We continued on until we reached Kendalia.  We made our way though Kendalia narrowly missing getting caught up in the onslaught of high-speed traffic and urban congestion of Kendalia. We made a left on Crabapple Rd. and our back road adventure continued until we reached 281 just south of Blanco. We headed south on 281 and made a rest stop at the Exxon there.

We continued our ride making a left on 32 and made our way to TJ’s motorcycle and gift shop in Sattler. We shopped for riding apparel and other things until the desire for food began to be a priority.

We mounted up and were off without delay to Coopers BBQ on the 337 loop in New Braunfels.  We sat a one of the long tables and enjoyed the excellent food and conversation (the cobbler there is worth the trip alone). The talk turned to where to next?  We decided that this be the end of the ride. Court led the group around the 337 loop to 482 south and we all broke off from the group using different routes heading to our homes.

We may not have had the best riding weather and it may not have been the original destination for the ride, but I enjoyed the company and the ride. Thanks to all who rode and helped with the ride.
