25 July 09 Breakfast Ride
Pictures by Skip Surre & Tom Byrd Write-up by Skip Surre
I had to think of a great place for breakfast for the riders this week and I thought of Mike Mills as a great resource for information. I called him and he told me about a place called Union Street Station in New Braunfels to eat. I asked Mike if he could lead us from YOSA to The restaurant and he cheerfully volunteered. Now where would we ride, I called Court van Sickler and he had a great idea for a short ride around Seguin.

Donna & Steve VanGilder New riders with Chapter U, JoAnn & Mike McDaniels!
Riders began arriving at YOSA. Mike Mills, Mike & JoAnn McDaniels (who by the way celebrated their 33 wedding anniversary riding with the chapter today) Congratulations. Steve and Donna Van Gilder, Tom & Nancy Byrd, Jill & Brad (Lefty) Severe arrived by car. Mike gave us our safety brief and we mounted up. Three bikes and two trikes ready to ride and get some coffee. We were trying to beat the rust at the restaurant so Mike led us north on I-35. Mike had us at the restaurant in no time and soon we were joined by Court & Diane van Sickler and Ron & Maria DeLaughter . The food was excellent and the coffee was flowing. There was lots of talk of riding and roads we have to ride. With our stomachs full our thoughts turned to riding. Tom & Nancy Byrd had other commitments and said their good byes.

Court gave us our ride safety brief and we were off like a herd of turtles. We rode past Schliterbaun and New Braunfels making our way to the countryside surrounding Seguin. The road we were seeking was 466, which runs east – west between 123 south of Seguin and Cost south of Gonzales. We were going to ride the stretch between 123 and 80 south of Luling. We arrived at 466 to find the road construction folks had threw us a curve and made the first few yards of the road dirt. We made it through and were soon on pavement again. 466 follows the course of the Guadalupe River there were lots of sweeping curves and ups and downs. The traffic was non-existent so it was smooth riding. We arrived at highway 80 and headed north to highway Alt. 90.

New hand & arm signals?
We headed east on Alt 90 untill we reached Seguin. We stopped at a light and I suggest to Mike that he suggest we stop at our favorite place… you guessed it Dairy Queen.
With our ice cream and drink need met we said our good byes each heading home in different directions.

Always need a DQ stop!
I believe what makes Chapter U great is the quality of the people in the chapter. We really enjoy riding and it shows. Thanks for another great breakfast ride and thanks to Mike and Court who make it look so easy.
