21 Mar Motorcycle Show Ride Today's ride started out at YOSA, where our group got together. Because the time was posted incorrectly on the website up until last night, I arrived at 8:30 just in case someone missed the e-mail I sent out. Fortunately all the participants received notice of the time correction. Steve Curry was the next to arrive. He rode up from Laredo to ride again with Chapter U. He said he was happy that the start time was 9:30 rather than 8:30. That meant that he didn't have to leave home until 6:30 AM, allowing him an extra hour of sleep. Brad & Jill Severe, and Charlie & Candy Brown were next to arrive. Dave & Lana were four-wheeling it. They were running errands but took the time to stop by just to say hello. As we finished our pre-ride instruction another goldwing showed up. It was Jim Brown's goldwing, but Jim was no where to be seen. Taking his place was his son Robert. As ride captain, I quickly briefed Robert and got us on our way.
Dave & Lana dropped by! Saddling up! With Brad & Jill, on their Trike, as our drag, we headed toward Seguin. By the time we were passing through Marion, the weather became soupy. Brad come across the CB and rhetorically asked "when is the sun was going to come out?" Charlie answered that it was clear up shortly. By the time we reached La Vernia the sun was starting to clear up the heavy fog. So, for the ride from there to The Smokehouse, on the corner of Roland & Rigsby, the weather was perfect.
Just arrive at the Smokehouse! An odor that can only be described as pure Texas BBQ heaven, greeted us as we pulled into the parking lot. None of the others had ever eaten here before, so everyone was anxious to try a this "new restaurant". I gave them a little history of what was once "Bob's Smokehouse". I was first introduced to Bob's when I came to San Antonio in 1975. At that time it had the destination of being the top rated BBQ restaurant in the State. It also looked like the building should have been condemned 30 years earlier. Bob passed away years ago, the family run into financial trouble and had to close down. It was reopened several years ago using Bob's original recipes, improving the building and still, today, serving outstanding BBQ.
Steve Currie joined us all the way from Laredo! Jim Brown's son Robert joined us! We each went up to the window, ordered our meal, paid, received our tray, and went to find a table. Since they open at 11:00 we were their first customers and had no trouble getting a table large enough for our group. Everyone was pleased with this restaurant selection. To quote Brad, "a superb pick for lunch!" We even discussed coming back for a Friday Night Ride dinner location.
Inside the Smokehouse! Just arrive at the Freeman Coliseum. After we ate our fill, we mounted up for the short ride to the South Texas Motorcycle Show. on our arrival at the show we decided that everyone would go their separate ways there. As we walked toward the entrance, we said our goodbyes. Each of us looking forward to taking in all the sights but also pleased at having just enjoyed another great time with Chapter U.
Jill likes the bling! Gary Mellissa & Jill.
2009 Co-rider wear? Candy Brown was shopping too!
Beautiful bikes at the show too!
Still more shopping! Caught up with dave & Lana!
The stunt riders were amazing!
Free parking for the bikes and there were lots of them!!! As for me, good to her work, Mellissa and her girlfriend Jody met me at the show. Throughout the day I ran into several other chapter members who also took advantage of the opportunity to enjoy a terrific motorcycle show based right here in San Antonio.
