21 June 08 Chapter Picture Ride Pictures by Don & June Getz, Mike Mills, Tom & Nancy Byrd and Brad Severe Just right click any picture then click "Save picture as..." The first 3 are large size pictures and may take a while to download. Today was another one of those days that brought new adventures to Chapter U members. Mike Mills, Chapter Ride Coordinator, planned a ride to Canyon Lake for the first annual chapter picture followed by a scenic ride to a relatively new and unknown restaurant in New Braunfels for breakfast. The day started great with temperatures in the 70’s for the ride to Yamaha of San Antonio (YOSA) to meet to leave for Canyon Lake. Eleven bikes and 2 trikes met at YOSA with Duke and Chela Thompson coming all the way from Bandera (Duke said the temperature was in the 60’s when they left-nice…!). JD and Millie Kvapil made it up from Pleasanton. Don’t know which couple drove farthest but it was a nice morning to ride. Lots of meeting and greeting going on but we finally made it out onto the road in good order as we had an appointment to make for our picture to be taken! This group had a mission today!
This one stitched together very nicely!
What a great group of folks on an absolutely gorgeous day!
Even the side view came out nice! Mike's neighbor did a great job!
Everyone always has something to chat about when we meet up!
Seven of the 13 bikes that met at Yosa Leaving out in two groups from YOSA, we wing’d our way towards Canyon Lake. There was very little traffic and we arrived right on time to be met by more bikes and trikes..some belonging to first-time Chapter U participants, and some belonging to those we know but don’t often see due to “stuff” such as kids, parents, jobs, health and mechanical challenges! We sure are glad to always see “old” friends and “new!” First-time participants were Daniel and Donna from Seguin Motor Trike were on an 1800 with lots of “safety chrome,” and Mike on a Honda Shadow.
Getting 21 bikes and 38 folks organized!!
The photographers, Don & June Getz. Getting organized!
Getting ready to saddle up for the ride down River Rd and breakfast! Mike Mills and Court Van Sickler got everyone organized. Thanks to Mike who recruited his neighbors, Don and June Gertz, to take our pictures. They did a great job as you can see from our website! Our two yellow trikes of Tom and Nancy Byrd and Olin and Martha Gover anchored our “U” formation. There wasn’t too much jockeying around. If you look closely you can see a GL 1000, lots of GL 1500s and GL 1800s, both two and three wheels, a Honda Shadow, and a even Harley! We didn’t include the two 4- wheels but their drivers are in the picture! If you want to have fun, ride safe, and be friendly, you are welcome to join this group! Red was the operative word for shirts and even two “extra” red shirts were loaned out for the picture! People in this group will even give you a shirt off their back, uh I mean out of their trunk, to help make people feel welcome to a chapter event. Thanks Duke and Chela for your friendliness. We had to reorganize people more than bikes in order to get a group shot…will those under 50 please kneel down in front…well coming up short in that age bracket we went for those who could get down and back up kneeling down in front!:) We soon had our group shot and our “bikes” pictures and we started organizing for the ride to breakfast…I think there were some hungry people in our group!
We did have a few that made it a tad late for the chapter photo We managed to pick up a few latecomers before we left for breakfast…the youngest co-rider of the day who was Craig’s daughter! Also Bert Navin joined us on the ride to New Braunfels and later met us at the restaurant. Most of the group then headed via a scenic route towards breakfast in New Braunfels. Fortunately one of the prettiest rides in Texas is just down the road from Canyon Lake Dam…River Road. I wish I had a camera mounted on my trike because I had 9 Gold Wings in front of me and a whole bunch behind me! Of course because a (nother!) piece of my chrome had come loose on the way up to the Canyon Lake Dam, I really needed to pay attention in case any other parts decided to come off Black Pearl today! That is what I get for giving her a spit-shine last night to make sure she was pretty for her picture! So no snaps of River Road unless someone else took them. There were lots of floaters, campers and bikinis so perhaps there aren’t any pictures for the website but we sure gave River Road another sight to see today! I felt like I was in our own version of Wing Ding’s Grand Parade!
Staging for the ride down River Rd and to breakfast! Arriving at our destination, the Red Rooster, right by the railroad tracks downtown New Braunfels, we took up a whole side room full of antiques, and worked on getting hydrated. Oops…forgot we had to do a bit of table and chair rearranging. That is becoming contagious in our chapter as there seemed to be several other people pulling tables for 2 up to tables for 4 and 6 to make sure everyone had a group to sit with. No one is a stranger for long in Chapter U!
"On the Road" picture Finally, breakfast at the Red Rooster!! Passing out coffee and water, we tried pretty much everything on the menu! The pancakes were as good as we were told. I had the blueberry with whipped cream AND they were about the best pancakes I have had in Texas! As we were a very large group, food came out in spurts. Some of the co-riders (and riders) filled some of the time perusing the antiques and collectibles for sale in the adjourning “antique” mall. Other riders and co-riders mingled among the tables. Everyone was patient and upbeat waiting for their food to come out, and I don’t recall anyone getting stabbed by a fork as they tried to “sample” food without permission!:)
Is Jill moving tables again? Even a life-sized plastic Elvis!
Jill passing out coffee mugs. Large room just for us!
We sure took up a lot of space at the Red Rooster!
The Chapter U hand sign! Yep, the center piece was for sale! Chatting with the last table to finish up breakfast (by this time it was an early lunch!), it was nice to hear from first-time participants about how friendly and welcoming our Chapter members are towards new people. I should have realized people felt welcomed as those without chapter shirts wanted to know where and how to get one. This is really a great compliment to Chapter U and something I hope earmarks our chapter along with our wanting to have fun while riding safe! If you weren’t able to join us, we hope to see you at future Chapter U activities, and don’t worry, we will plan another Chapter U picture! We hope to see Chapter U continue to ride safe, have fun, and be friendly for many years to come, and the people in this first annual chapter picture are the ones to make that happen! Great job Chapter U!
