14 June 2008 Breakfast Ride to the Silver K
The heat of summer has come early this year so I was glad that we scheduled a morning breakfast ride for Saturday, June 14. We met at the Exxon at 46 and 281 at 8 am, and head north to Johnson City and the Silver K Café. The temperature was delightful when we left home…upper 70’s, and a happy-to-ride and hungry group of riders and co-riders were right on time to leave the Exxon at 8 am. Happy belated first anniversary to John and Sharon Simonick!
Heading north with Jack Dowda on his GL 1000, Brad and I leading on our 1500, Mike and Ako Mills,Charlie & Candy Brown and John and Sharon Simonick on their 1800s and Olin and Martha Gover “dragging” on their 1800 trike, there wasn’t a lot of traffic which made wing’ing our way north an even more pleasant experience than usual.

Once a lumberyard! Inside at the round table!
We arrived just in time at the Silver K Café to sit 11 people around the center circle table. I love that table because everyone can talk to everyone, and Chapter U has been fortunate to have that table every time we go there to eat! Though lavender pancakes were on the menu to celebrate the lavender festival locally and in Blanco, no one seemed to be interested in them, but lots of people were interested in the homemade biscuits and sausage gravy and homemade buttermilk pancakes! Silver K Café is written up in various food guides and we can certainly attest that the café has yummy food!

After a nice time of eating and catching up, the co-riders had a few minutes to move across the way to the rest of this lumber mill complex to do a bit of shopping! There weren’t any bags apparent when the co-riders came out but perhaps there was at least one bag inside a handy purse!:)
The temperature was starting to climb a bit and everyone seemed to have a “to-do” list at home or somewhere they had to be. So we headed south again, turning off in various directions. We were home before noon having enjoyed a pleasant ride, very good food and great company with Chapter U. Hope you can join us next time!
