12 Oct 08 Rally Meeting at Pickrell Park
The last Rally Coordination meeting on Sunday, October 12, was held at Pickerill Park. Cars, bikes and trikes kept pouring into the parking lot by the large pavilion. The last Rally Coordination meeting had about 25 in attendance, and I think there were at least that many and probably more. We never quite had a “meeting.” True to Chapter U fashion, we “greeted and meted;” after all business first as we all got down to “brass tacks” on where things were going to be set up (Steve Ochs with an initial plan that kept evolving), the schedule of events, who was bringing what (ice chests, tables, chairs, fliers, goodie bags, and let’s not forget Olin’s Grand Prize ticket box! People with lists wandered around…some with an entourage like Maria DeLaughter working with some eager vendors who stopped by to check out the set-up for the rally. People wandered up to groups, asked questions, and wandered over to other groups. People circulated the areas, checking out where to have the Toilet Bowl Race (Jack and Linda Dowda), where to put the Silent Auction (Connie Jordan and Susan Ochs), and where to put the Participation Prize drawing (Duke and Chela Thompson)! Mike Mills was counting witches for the Witch Hunt and going over the route with Route Marshalls Mike and Cindy Edmonds. Bill and Jane drove all the way up from Poth so Bill knows where the motorcycle versus car parking will be. JD and Millie Kvapil came up on Millie’s birthday to ride honcho on the last minute discussions. Brad and Jill Severe had lists and notebooks full of info, previous coordination, questions to ask and commitments to confirm. What else can you expect from Chapter Directors who are both retired Army? Martha Gover was there with the Chapter checkbook, and we missed Olin who sent along a box of goodies for the goody bags. Good thing our Chapter has been busy raising money this last year as you have to pay for some things up front!
