12 July 08 Ride to the Goliad Market Days

Mike Mills, Olin Gover, Michael McDaniel, Glen and Vincie Boswell, Juan Busenet  and Debbie Perez, Tom Byrd and Steve and Susan Ochs met at YOSA at 8:00 AM to head to Goliad for Market Days on July 12th.

We left via 1604 to 87 to 123 to pick up J. D. & Millie and Bill Johnson in Stockdale.  It was an awesome morning and the weather was perfect for riding, it was cool, so it made it a very pleasant ride.  We continued down 123 to 81 in Panna Maria.  We saw quite a few dogs running loose on this road and the dogs gave us some strange looks going by, guess they don't see 9 motorcycles down that road too often.  We spotted a turkey and fox along this stretch of road, too.  We stayed on 81 to outside of Runge and outside of Charco we turned down 239 to Goliad.  We got to Goliad and stopped for a gas break before heading toward downtown.  Glen and Vincie decided to head back to do some yard work at this time.  The rest of us found parking spots along some shady spots and we walked to the Market Square.  The market was very small due to the heat, numerous vendors don't show up when it is so hot.  At 11:00 AM we headed to the Blue Quail Deli to grab some munchies.  I think everyone enjoyed the cream of jalepeno soup that was one of the soups of the day.  We visited a few stores on Market Square and decided it was getting rather warm.

We discussed the route to take home and decided to take 119 to Yorktown and stop for a Dairy Queen break.  Juan and Debbie decided to go back the same we had travelled.  We all enjoyed our ice cream break and we mounted the bikes to head back to San Antonio along 119, even spotted a deer on this route.  J. D. and Millie along with Bill turned off on 123 and we continued the ride until others decided to hit another route home.

We arrived home around 4:00 PM.  It was a wonderdul day, with Goldwing friends.  The day would have been much better had the cooler temperature held out but then again we are from South Texas where the heat can be almost unbearable.  It seems everyone enjoyed the ride and we were glad to lead this ride.  We had hoped to see friends from Victoria shopping but the heat becomes almost unbearable at this time of the year unless you can find a spot where the breeze is blowing.
Thanks to all who came and rode with us.
