Corpus Christi, Chapter X Rally, 22 Sep 07
Thanks Olin & Martha Gover, Bob Fairy & Charlie Brown for the pictures!!!
The alarm clock went off RRREAL early...(at least for Brad) at 5:30 am and as we rolled out of bed and tried to get just enough coffee but not too much coffee in us before heading to the Chapter U meeting point for a 7:00 am departure. We had been wondering how many FUNNNN Chapter U members would join us to head south to the Chapter X rally in Corpus Christi. Well many Wings headed through the early morning darkness (and fog) and kept rolling in and rolling in to our meeting point and soon there were lots of Chapter U red shirts (and one Harley) listening to a driver's safety briefing by Charlie Brown and a driver's briefing by Brad Severe. I think that is the most Chapter U shirts that the Wal-Mart has seen to date but hopefully not the most it will ever see! Thanks to Charlie and Candy Brown, and Olin and Martha Gover for helping Brad and I lead and drag the group formations!

Bit dark when we all met up!!! Just arrived at the rally.
Heading south right on time, 5 bikes and 3 trikes enjoyed a beautiful sunrise, some fog, and very little traffic. After a leisurely and not-too-hot 150 or so mile ride, all in all 20 people, Harley, 3 trikes and 9 bikes from Chapter U registered for the rally. Chapter X was very happy to see us...Chapter U members were not quite 20% of the attendees at the rally, and next year we hope to be Austin Chapter O's participation at 24 members!

9 bikes and 3 trikes made the rally. Waiting to go in and register.

Back side pose is a bit better. Missing Charlie though.

Lots of bikes at the rally!
The rally had a 50's theme and it was represented in the decor, music, activities and food. Registration brought everyone a pin, a "bling" guitar, and tickets. Lots of guessing games and games of skill were played inside for which everyone was thankful for. Brad bought a new front tire and had it mounted by a vendor who was present. The price was very good and about $35 than normal for San Antonio plus it was done right there when we weren't on the bike. Lots of goodies were available at the silent auction and several Chapter U members made out like bandits. The top prize of the day, a new digital camera, was won by our very own Nancy Byrd who managed to make it to the rally though she hadn't been feeling too well earlier in the day! Good job Nancy! Attending other rallies gives us ideas on how we would like to have our rally if we should someday decide to host one. Many chapters have rallies to make money for the chapter but some chapters either split the proceeds with a charity or do it as a fun raiser for a charity. Food for thought if we have some chapter members who want to raise money for a worthy cause!

With 20 folks and Harley at the rally, we needed almost 2 tables!

The day brought lots of introductions and socializing with old and new friends. In fact, Chapter U split off in different directions after the rally. Seven members stayed the night in Corpus Christi. Four members headed off to Las Tortillitas for an impromptu dinner ride. The rest of us rode home our various directions, weary from the 300+ miles of road fun and several hours of off the road fun. We had members from New Braunfels, Seguin, Floresville, Pleasanton and everywhere in between! What a great time we had as a chapter, and when we show up in all those bright red shirts, the other chapters know that "U" is on the move having FUN! If you weren't able to join us, we hope you will be able to in the near future. There are several rallies coming up that are a full day's worth of fun, and we hope you will join us as it is each of us coming together that makes Chapter U what it is!
