8 Jan 12 - Ride to Belmont Social Club
Meeting at YOSA at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, our small group of three bikes left for the Belmont Social Club in Belmont, Texas. Ron & Maria DeLaughter, Randy & June Stewart, and Ken & Connie Jordan headed for New Berlin, TX where we were meeting Sam & Sheila Morris, Bill & Jane Johnson, and Hilmer Merz. Our group was now doubled in size.
We left New Berlin riding back roads to Seguin, then headed east and finally came to SH80. The very small town of Belmont is located at the crossroads of SH80 and US Hwy 90a, between Seguin and Gonzales. I’m not sure, but I think the Belmont Social Club is the only open business here (at least on weekends). By the way, this business is the only restaurant in the community. The building has been remodeled from the old Goss Grocery Store. A sign reading “Belmont Social Club” was found hanging in the old store and the new owners decided to use this name as the name of their restaurant; and so, the odd name for the restaurant.
Everyone enjoyed their lunch and some of us carried home leftovers—lots of food. We had a relaxed, enjoyable, fun visit with everyone and then started for home. Some drove west to Seguin, and others headed south towards Nixon, Stockdale and home with a stop at the local flea market.
Very good food, very good company, and a very good day.
