21 January 12 - Breakfast Ride to Floresville

The start of our ride to Floresville for breakfast had a lot of us wondering if we were really that hungry. It was a cold, windy morning when we met at YOSA at 8:00 a.m. But we had eleven people decide to ride to Olivia’s Restaurant in Floresville—Archie Haley, Bill Chavez, Robert Motl, Jim Brown, Steve Cloud, Court & Diane Van Sickler, Steve & Donna van Gilder, and Ken & Connie Jordan. We were meeting people there and on the way, so we couldn’t change our minds. Bill Johnson joined the group at 281 and 1604, J.D. & Mille Kvapil and Jane Johnson met us in the town square; Sam & Sheila Morris were in the restaurant arranging space for us. Our seventeen people took up a third of the place, but the waitstaff was great. No one had to wait very long for food.

Finishing our meals, everyone wandered outside to check out local businesses and, of course, to do a little shopping and visiting. Then we were off again with Bill Johnson in the lead. We were on country back roads that he was familiar with. (Millie and J.D. left us for another appointment at this point.) This part of the country doesn’t have a lot of trees, creeks or hills; but what they do have are a lot of oil wells (I’m going to ask Santa for one next Christmas) and livestock in their pastures and yards. After a few twists and turns, he led us right into the Dairy Queen parking lot in Floresville. Our sweet tooth (teeth?) was/were satisfied. Some of the group then headed for home and some headed down the street for the ever-favorite shop called Sisters—a “girlie” store. After a short stay, we again parted ways and left for home. But there was one more stop down the highway where Donna & Steve found a new pet and Ken found some more boots for his closet (see pictures).
