20 Feb 10 - LBJ Ranch Ride

On this particular Saturday, the weather was varied at times.  It was clear when we left the house but rather overcast.  The further we went down FM 3009, the denser the fog got.  The weather was a rather chilly 56 degrees with it being so foggy.  Upon reaching our meeting place, we found 3 bikes and 1 trike anxiously waiting to leave for breakfast in Blanco at the Sunset Cafe.  We were met by Mike & Eiko Mills, Ken & Connie Jordan, Brad & Jill Severe and Bob & Sandy Kelley from New York.  We decided even though there were a few sprinkles to head out to eat and then decide if we would continue to our destination.  The weather gave us some intermittent sprinkles at times but we arrived at the cafe to many open tables.  Everyone ordered something to drink and their breakfast.  We all visited with the couple from New York and asked them about the rides they do there.  We asked about different members and what they were up to these days since we have missed them on rides and meetings.

After breakfast we decided to go on to Johnson City and visit the LBJ Ranch.  First stop was the visitors center and the living farm area.  We then stopped at the cemetery to see the grave site of our former President and his family.  We then stopped for the tour of the ranch home where LBJ entertained his staff and dignitaries.  After the tour we decided to ride to Blanco and the local DQ where everyone participated in their favorite ice cream dish.  We travelled back to our various homes after a long but enjoyable day on the roads of the hill country.
